Language and Cultural Exchange program.
Yup. That's the thing I joined in Uni currently.
First, my aim was to find local friends.
Then I attended one of their events-Dumpling making evening.
Quite nice. Met some nice people.
People who asked me bout the 'tudung'.
People who asked me bout the '4 wives'.
People who asked me bout 'Jesus-prophet'.
And also a small debate ignited but...
I was not ready to go further so I slow down the heat to minify the fire.
See how unready I am and how little my knowledge is?
Felt a little down then.
And then there was this guy who was really interested to know bout Islam.
He said that he's not really atheist, and not really sticking to any religion.
But he's learning them: "Life is short, you've gotta learn everything" was what he said.
I hope his search leads him to find the truth.
Next, was Sushi Making Evening.
This time I offered to be one of the volunteers when Jonnie sent out emails looking for some.
Just had "I wanna enjoy uni life and this will be a chance to get networking" in my mind.
And tadaa!
I was the receptionist.
Welcoming participants from all walks of life on that event.
The pre-event meeting and place setting up was quite interesting.
Little had I thought I'll be facing some Islamic matters/issues.
This time I got to explain why dead sea creatures are Halal and land creatures aren't Halal unless slaughtered. That was to Minami and Jonnie.
Then I got to explain to Cypress, Sam, and Ai bout how Muslim women don't handshake with men. It happened when Cypress hold out his hand to handshake mine when we first met and I just greet him by holding both hands together (refer above pic) like Indonesians do (according to abah). Surprised to know that they thought I can only handshake with Muslim men before I clarified that it applies to all men except blood-related family.
I also got to talk bout what my name means in Arabic. (^_^)
Glad I did all that-well not all.
Now I felt like I'm more than that in LCE.
I'm actually one of Islam's ambassador.
It's scary... thinking bout it.
But I'll try.
'Coz now Jonnie offered me to be one of LCE's event organizers/volunteers.
There's still a long way to go...
"Ya Allah, janganlah kau berikan sesuatu yang tak mampu aku pikul.
Kau lebih menegtahui, dan kaulah sebaik-baik perancang.
Maka berilah sesuatu yang Kau tahu adalah terbaik buatku."
